I have been working on a new blanket pattern and have now finished this simple granny square blanket to gift to a lovely friend of mine.

My friend did give me an idea of the colours she would like so that was a good start. She is also a talented horticulturelist, loves gardening and everything botanical.

It was a challenge to find the the right yarn. I wanted something that captures garden colours and I chose four variations of Moda Vera Valley 8ply yarn available from Spotlight stores. This yarn is fantastic. Is is 100% acrylic so it makes the blanket warm yet lightlweight and it is super soft.

For this pattern I have used 5mm crochet instead of the recommended 4mm. Using a larger hook means the gauge is slightly looser and the finished blanket is softer.

The green colour ties everything together really well. To finish off I have made a little flower and picot border.

There are some fabulous colours in this Moda Vera range. My next project is choose another colour and make one of these gorgeous blankets for myself!

Happy crocheting and crafting everyone!
